His Word Brings Joy Part Three
We Can Speak Openly and Ask Him for Anything
When I found out I was pregnant with my firstborn, I began circling verses in my Bible, praying these scriptures over my son and his brothers to come. Each day of their lives, I have asked God something for them. Some of these prayers are big and bold (that God would send them all over the globe for His name’s sake), and others are small and simple (that they would be kind to one another for just 10 minutes).
He speaks to us; we speak to Him. This is not a one-way relationship. I talk to God about my delights and sorrows, my disappointments with life, others, and even Him. I come to Him with questions and fears. He gets all my feels.
There is such joy and safety here.
The Psalmist said, “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD, each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. (Psalm 5:3) Jesus said, “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9
I love the question Jesus asked blind Bartimaeus, “What do you want for me to do for you?” (Mark 10:51). There are 67 “asking” verses in scripture. Asking is not just okay. It is welcomed! Even Christ begged the Father to do something for Him in the Garden. (Mark 14:35-36)
Friend, He is welcoming you in today.
“The greatest tragedy in life is the prayers that go unanswered because they go unasked.”
Mark Batterson
Do you find yourself reluctant to ask God for things? Do you speak openly with God? If not, then why?
