Dec 15 2014 Lingering in the Season Part 3
SAVOR THE SEASON BY FORCING YOURSELF TO SAVOR THE SEASON
That sounds weird, doesn’t it? Let me explain…
I am a “to-do list” kind of gal. And this time of year, there are a multitude of tasks on my list (just like yours). There are lists for my lists, subcategory lists for those lists, you get the picture.
The act of crossing off a chore on my slate feels almost as good as a piece of dark chocolate melting in my mouth. That good! The feeling of accomplishment is a huge rush for me, and I suspect it is for you, too. As hard as it is, we must instruct ourselves (in a bossy voice) to put the lists down and let them wait for a bit.
Sometimes, we need to force ourselves to jump off the hamster wheel. Let’s not let this beautiful Advent season run away with the hamsters. How about giving ourselves permission to stop and smell the Christmas pines? Remembering our theme from the first two posts: lingering in the season requires deliberateness on our part.
How about putting “savoring the season” on your list for today? Won’t it feel good to cross that one-off?
Here is your assignment:
1. Put down your list and jump off the wheel
2. Put on some Christmas music
3. Light a scented candle
4. LINGER in and SAVOR this moment
AHHHH… good job.
Now, WHERE did I put that list?
