His Word Brings Joy Part Five
God’s Word Tells Us What is True About Us
This is particularly encouraging to me as a woman. He tells me what is true about me, which is contrary to the message modern culture tells me. With each turn of our heads or glimpse at our screens, the world yells to women where our worth comes from. Appearance is highly valued (emphasizing looks and bodies), as are accomplishments and status. And to pile on, some in our culture would like to eliminate the word “woman.”
But we know the truth. Women are a powerful force for God’s Kingdom. Praying moms, grandmas, aunts, and friends are necessary and needed. As are females shining the light of Christ in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods.
God loves women! Women were vital to Jesus’ ministry (and Paul’s). God made us all (men, too, of course!) for a great purpose. In Ephesians 2:10, we are told we are God’s masterpiece and that He had a plan for us long ago. In Jeremiah 29:11, God tells us His plan is to give us a hope and a future. Isaiah said, “Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength!” (45:24)
Now, that is some happy truth about us.
Psalm 139 is a beautiful section of scripture. I return to this passage often when I need to be reminded of who I am and who He created me to be. Here are verses 13-16 in the Message paraphrase:
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
Amen!
Do you believe what He says about you is true?
