Picture the hostile faces of the Pharisees, their blood boiling as Jesus spoke about Himself:
12Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” 13So the Pharisees said to Him,
“You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not true.” John 8
The Pharisee’s were influential religious leaders in the time of Christ; Zealots. They saw Christ’s miracles first hand and heard His words yet hated Him to the point of having Him killed.
I imagine them angrily asking one another, “who does He think He is?!” They really had no clue.
But we do. We know that He was the very image of God, coming in human form to save the world:
1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.5God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. Genesis 1:1-5
“Your sun will set no more,
Neither will your moon wane;
For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning will be finished. Is. 60:20
And beyond this miraculous truth is more wonderfulness: He is the light now in this much-darkened world- daily hope, help and strength. No matter what we are facing. No matter what Fox News or CNN tells us. No matter what.
