Picture the hostile faces of the Pharisees, their blood boiling as Jesus spoke about Himself:
12Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” 13So the Pharisees said to Him,
“You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not true.” John 8
The Pharisee’s were influential religious leaders in the time of Christ; Zealots. They saw Christ’s miracles first hand and heard His words yet hated Him to the point of having Him killed.
I imagine them angrily asking one another, “who does He think He is?!” They really had no clue.
But we do. We know that He was the very image of God, coming in human form to save the world:
1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.5God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. Genesis 1:1-5
“Your sun will set no more,
Neither will your moon wane;
For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning will be finished. Is. 60:20
And beyond this miraculous truth is more wonderfulness: He is the light now in this much-darkened world- daily hope, help and strength. No matter what we are facing. No matter what Fox News or CNN tells us. No matter what.
4In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5The Light shines in the darkness… John 1
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them. Isaiah 9:2
For God, who said “Let light shine out of darkness,” is the one who shined in our hearts to give us the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
Let the goodness of these truths permeate your spirit. There is good news today and every day my friend because the Light of Christ shines for us here on earth and will shine with and for us in eternity!
Those Pharisees’s now know “who He thinks He is!”
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. Revelation 21:23
Thank you for your words and these scriptures. I’m going through a difficult, dark time right now and this series has helped me so much. Looking forward to the next one.
I’m sorry to hear that Kari. I will pray for you. I’ve loved these scriptures too.
